DAY 1
Our departure out of Sydney takes us to the Putty Rd where we will stop at the lovely country town of Wollimbi (the home of Dr Jurd’s Jungle Juice) for a well-deserved morning tea break. We then travel through the wine growing region of the Hunter Valley to visit some of the many famous wineries. Here you will be guaranteed to enjoy a sample of one of the local wines.
After successfully pulling you away from the excellent drops we will make our way to Muswellbrook where you will enjoy a light lunch at the town’s RSL Club before heading further north to the township of Scone, the horse capital of Australia. In Scone we will take a trip up to "The Burning Mountain" to view the spectacular large coal seam that was struck by lightening thousands of years ago and is still burning today. Following this stunning scene we will head towards our place of rest for the next two nights where the evening’s meal will be served.
Overnight: Airlie House Scone (see inclusions below)
DAY 2
What a day ahead! Travel through Gundy where the Australian feature The Shiralee was filmed. A peep at historic Belltrees then onto the hamlet of Moonan. We then start the climb towards the Barrington Tops where the dingo gate offers a gateway to a unique wilderness area. As we approach we will first stop quietly as this spot is known for Lyre Birds. Our next stop will be Pole Blue followed by morning tea where you have the option of taking a one hour walk down a nearby trail.
The Devil’s Hole Lookout will expose a fantastic view as we proceed onto Sub Alpine areas featuring Snow Gums, Arctic Beech Trees and a wonderful array of different tree and plant species. Next a 4 wheel drive experience across Thunderbolts Trails followed by a trek across the mountain and past Ellerston, the property owned by Australia’s richest man, Kerry Packer. Then it’s onto the famous Australian Hanging Rock campsite before heading into the town of Nundle to visit the underground Gold Mine.
Overnight: Nundle (see inclusions below)
DAY 3
After a hearty country style breakfast we will take a few minutes to explore the town. Don’t forget to take the camera as the Mare & Foal statue in Elizabeth Park makes for a great photo setting.
There will be time to view the Tourist Information Centre before experiencing a guided tour of the Bhima Horse Stud. Then we are off to view Lake Glenbawn Dam which holds more than three times the capacity of Sydney Harbour. South of Scone we will visit Aberdeen where you will be able to browse through the African Shop which features stunning and genuine artifacts. Lunch will follow at the Segenhoe Inn before we make our way back South to the big smoke, Sydney, with a comfort stop en-route.
